Island Metamorphoses weaves together untold narratives of modern architecture, queer sexual health and the lore of Fire Island Pines into a photographic archive and video documentary. The work centers on the iconic figure of Robin Byrd, a pioneering media performer and AIDS-era sexual health activist whose archive of Manhattan cable-access television broadcasts have never been fully documented. The result is a video homage of Robin and her groundbreaking work within the context of Fire Island Pines: her modernist house a theoretical object that reflects modern architecture’s complex relationship with health and queer histories.
